This year’s participating destinations are some of the coolest experiences in town, offering educational and experiential exhibits about music, civil rights history, fire safety, the arts, nature, and even metal sculpting. We’re so excited to have such diverse destinations to help instill community pride and an appreciation of our history in the young minds of Mid-south learners.

Thank you to this year’s destinations for opening your doors to serve Shelby County students and their families: Fire Museum of Memphis, Dixon Garden & Gallery, Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, Lichterman Nature Center, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the National Civil Rights Museum, Pink Palace Museum of Science & History, Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum, and the Metal Museum.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this program really free for students? Yes. Every school-aged child who presents their passport between now and November 30, 2022, will receive free admission. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will also be admitted for free when they present their Shelby County ID. The passport may not be used for groups or parties.

How do I receive a passport? We'll soon have free passport booklets available at a variety of sites, including YMCA locations throughout Shelby County. In the meantime, you may download a printable passport page HERE. Please remember that you must have a physical passport that the admissions desk can stamp. If you’d like the Mayor’s Office to mail a passport to you, please send your complete mailing address to [email protected].

Can I use the passport for my birthday party, daycare field trip, or school group outing? No. This program is designed to allow a child to explore museums and galleries with their parent or legal guardian. Destinations are not allowed to welcome groups who use the passport.

Can I use the passport for more than one child? Every school-aged child must have a passport. You can print and download a passport HERE.

What is considered a “school-aged” child? Children between the ages of 5 (kindergarten) and 17 are considered eligible. They may attend any public school, charter school, private school, or home school in Shelby County, TN. This program does not cover college students, infants, or toddlers (but check with the destination of your choice because they may have special deals for you).

Can I use the passport in the gift shop or on-site café? Each passport covers admission for a student plus a parent.

May I use my passport at a destination more than one time? When you visit the destination, your passport will receive a stamp. While you can’t receive another stamp from that destination, we encourage you to visit all destinations so that you may earn a personalized gift from the Mayor’s Office.
