Private assigned to Truck 2, was one of several firefighters injured or stricken with illness while on continuous duty during the great flood that occurred in February 1937. He contracted pneumonia while working at the flood refugee base at the Fairgrounds on February 20th. He died at St. Joseph's Hospital on February 26, 1937. Perry A. Gillespie, 40, had been with the department for one year. He was married but had no children.
