Old Fashioned Push In

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, fire departments used steam engines to put out fires. When stations got a new piece of equipment, all the local firefighters would get together and push it into the station. On Wednesday, April 23, at 10 a.m., the Fire Museum of Memphis will hold an Old Fashioned Push In for a very special piece of equipment at the museum. We will be pushing in the 1970 Memphis Fire Department Shop-Built Pumper. Local mechanics and vehicle maintenance crew members started building this pumper in 1969 and finished it in 1970 when it was used within the department.

Now, for the first time, it will be stationed at Old Fire Station #1 at 118 Adams Avenue (Fire Museum of Memphis).
