– You’re caught in a burning house. Smoke detectors are going off loudly overhead, Smoke is filling the air you are trying to breathe. Can you get out in time?
A visit to the Fire Museum of Memphis and its new Escape Room could be the thing that saves your life. “This is the only permanent publicly available fire safety and prevention-themed escape room in the country,” said Kimberly Crafton, Executive Director. “This escape room tests all your fire safety knowledge so that you can survive in case of a fire.”
Escape rooms have become popular in recent years, offering a unique and immersive entertainment experience. These themed adventures lock participants in a room, challenging them to decipher puzzles, work together, and escape within a set time limit.
The main reason escape rooms are successful is their ability to tap into our natural desire for challenge and accomplishment. The puzzles and riddles require creative thinking and teamwork, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. The ticking clock adds a layer of pressure, pushing participants to think innovatively and communicate effectively. Success brings the participants great satisfaction, reinforcing the value of collaboration and problem-solving.
The Fire Prevention and Safety Escape Room uses interactive computer puzzles along with a bit of physical activity to figure out how to safely get out in case of a fire, how to call 9-1-1, and a myriad of other fire safety lessons. There are also clues hidden around the room that will help you find the combination to get the key to unlocking the escape room. There are three puzzle levels: Children, students, and adults, so visitors of all ages can enjoy the room.
Quantum Era out of Texas designed the escape room with guidance from the Fire Museum and its staff of fire prevention and safety experts. The entire exhibit takes approximately 20 minutes to go through, and at the end, your Escape Room Team gets to be listed on the Leaderboard outside of the exhibit. Entrance into the Escape Room will be offered for free with a paid museum admission.
The exhibit in the 1910 Old Firehouse #1 at 118 Adams Avenue will have its Grand Opening on Wednesday, April 2 at 11 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.
The exhibit was made possible through grants from the Assisi Foundation, Nike Community Initiative Fund, MFD Red Door Funds, and other donations.
