FMOM BEGINS NEW STUDENT VOUCHER PROGRAM

The Fire Museum of Memphis has received a $10,000 grant from the International Paper Foundation to continue the student voucher program that began in October as part of a grant from the Shelby County Government. The grant will allow families to visit the museum and social distance in a safe and sterilized environment. The museum sanitizes after every family visits to ensure the ultimate safety of the guests.

The International Paper grant will allow one parent and one child from a Midsouth area school to come to the museum for free. Once at the museum they will receive a tour by Memphis Fire Services Specialists. This is the same tour that they would receive if they came with their class from school.

“We’re exceptionally pleased that International Paper has seen the need for students to still be able to come to the museum and learn important lifesaving lessons,” said Kimberly Crafton, executive director of the museum. “Students will be able to learn how and when to call 9-1-1, how to get out and stay out in case of a fire, the history of the Memphis Fire Department, and many more important lessons.” Students will also get to drive a virtual reality fire truck, learn firsthand what a fire looks like in the FedEx Fire Room, learn how to spot fire hazards in their home, and play an arcade game where they can put out a LED fire.

“International Paper is proud to support this program because it not only provides life-saving education to families in our community, but it aligns with our commitment to support critical community needs, including education and disaster relief,” said Dynisha Woods, community engagement coordinator, International Paper. “Our children are so important to the future of our community, and this is one more way we can support their success.”

Parents will need to get their tickets online. Tickets are only good for the day and time you choose this will assist us in staying within Shelby County Health Department guidelines for the number of patrons in the museum at a given time. You can go to https://2021schoolvoucher.eventbrite.com and claim your voucher. Please bring your voucher in either a printed format or on your cell phone with you to the museum.
